The following courses will be held in Tasmania during 2012:

28th February to 1st March 2012

Organising Foundations x 3 days

This course is aimed specifically at newly appointed organisers and should be completed within their first six months of appointment. The course covers current organising techniques, skills and knowledge essential to being an effective organiser. Topics include: mobilising workers; planning; identifying workplace leaders and building union culture.

 

21st to 22nd March 2012

Organising Foundations part 2 x 2days

 

25th to 27th April 2012 (2 days)

Organising for Safer Workplaces

This course is designed for Organisers and/or Officials who wish to explore how workplace health and safety issues can be used to build union strength and visibility.

 

8th to 10th of May 2012 (3 days)

Advanced Recruitment Skills x 3 days

This is a course for Organisers.  It’s aims are:

To advance the skills and knowledge of organisers and lead organisers to have the recruitment or sign up conversation with potential members.

To improve attitudes and behaviours of organisers and lead organisers about the recruitment or sign up conversation.

To deliver capacity to union branches in order to implement growth initiatives based around recruitment activity.

 

19th to 21st June 2012 (3 days)

Core skills for Delegates & Activists

This is a course for new representatives. 
The course introduces the role, knowledge and skills involved in being a workplace representative, and discusses how to represent members effectively and how to strengthen union organisation in the workplace. Participants will practice skills such as identifying issues, holding one-on-one conversations with members, and mapping.  

 

31st July to 2nd August 2012 (3 days)

Campaigning Skills for Organisers x 3 days

This course is aimed at organisers and officials who have campaigning responsibilities as part of their role.

 

24th August 2012

Workplace Bullying and Harassment x 1 day

This course provides organisers with information on the new discrimination provisions in the Fair Work Act to equip organisers with the skills and knowledge to deal with discrimination and harassment in the workplace.  This will enhance fairness in workplaces.

 

13th September 2012

Interactive and Social Media Skills x 1 day

This one day course will give both experienced organisers and new starters the skills to increase the effectiveness of their communications and reduce the time and effort involved.

 

1st November 2012 (1 day)

Fair Work Update

This one day workshop is designed to update participants on the latest decisions to come out of Fair Work Australia relating to bargaining, general protections, right of entry and unfair dismissal. Participants will also analyse how unions are using the legislation to their advantage in an organising context and look at ways in which employer strategies are impacting this capacity.
