Women & Tax Review On 13th May 2008 the Australian Government announced ' Australia 's Future Tax System'. Among other things it is looking at the financial security of seniors, carers and people with a disability. So far, the Review has released 2 consultation papers, and responses to the paper on retirement income are due by 27th February 2009. There are only a few weeks left for women to give their perspective on the Review of Australia's Tax System and to increase the input of women to the Review, the National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW) has been asked by the Office for Women to coordinate a project to collect women's views. If you would like to have your views included, please go to http://www.nfaw.org/women-and-tax-2/. Unions Tasmania Women's Committee Unions Tasmania Women's Committee is made up of women from unions affiliated to Unions Tasmania. The purpose of the committee is to:
This year committee members participated in the Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission's Listening Tour and provided grass roots input in to issues such as workplace bullying, sexual harrassment, women in leadership, women and superannuation and the difficulties of balancing work and family demands. Many of the committee once again participated in the Mother's Day Classic in May. Submissions were also made to the Pay Equity Inquiry as well as to the Productivity Commission's Paid Maternity Leave interim report. A highlight of the year was the very successful Paid maternity Leave Forum held in October. Over thirty community organisations joined with affiliates and politicians to raise awareness of this issue. A statement was signed by the parties and forwarded to the federal and state governments. This campaign will continue in the coming year. The Unions Tasmania Women's Committee meets monthly at Unions Tasmania, for more information please contact Roz Madsen:
The Anna Stewart Memorial Project In April 1983, Anna Stewart, a long time campaigner for women's rights, and prominent union official, died tragically. The Anna Stewart Memorial Project was established as an annual work experience program aimed at increasing womens' active union involvement and to increase the union movement's acceptance and understanding of women members. If you are a woman in the union movement and would like to participate in the program, please contact your union and ask them to nominate you for the 2009 program.
